The problem
An espresso machine dies at three places: the portafilter gasket, the steam knob and the boiler. Verifying them means loading, locking, steaming and draining dozens of times a day by hand with no consistency, and mains water hardness varies by season so scaling life differs by a factor of two between tests.
Capability
The machine tests espresso and drip coffee makers on two tiers of three stations, six in total. Espresso units get a pneumatic portafilter rotation mechanism (X and Y direction) and a steam knob actuator; drip units get a power key cylinder and a jug locating seat. The whole cycle runs unmanned: dosing 1-9.9L at 0.01L accuracy with automatic refill, pneumatic key press and heating, programme selection, automatic portafilter open and close, steam release triggered by the indicator signal, solenoid drain at 1-99.9s and fan cooling with adjustable time. Besides the solenoid drain, a vacuum extraction unit using compressed air removes residual water from glass jugs that cannot be tipped. Each station counts independently (1-999999) and a fault cuts that station only. Electrical monitoring covers 120V/1500W per unit, voltage and current at plus or minus 0.5 percent, current 0-20A, power 0.1-2000W, with audible and visual alarm on out-of-range values. Programs include the espresso sequence (three small cycles plus 20 minutes cooling as one large cycle, 1000 large cycles) and the drip sequence (run to thermostat trip, refill cold water, cool five minutes). Supply AC220V plus or minus 10 percent, air 0.5MPa from customer, about 1780x860x1780mm.
